Mike's Tim McGraw Page

Tim McGraw

Tim McGraw is married to Faith Hill. He is one of my favorite performers because his songs are fun to listen to. I also find his love songs like, "It's Your Love" to be very touching. He has a nice persona and great looks. I was lucky enough to get to see him in person in Nov, 1998. He does a great show and I'll definitely go see him again when I get a chance.

Tim McGraw is the CMA male vocalist of the year for 1999.

Biography

"This has been the best time of my life. It's been a time for me to really evaluate where I'm going and what I'm doing -- to focus my direction. When you have a family, that changes your whole perspective on what you do and what you want to get out of what you do."

The past few years have brought many changes for Tim McGraw. The singer who made his debut in 1992 has consistently released Number One singles and multi-platinum albums. He concluded 1996 with a top-selling tour and married Faith Hill. In 1997, McGraw became a father and released the now double platinum-selling album, Everywhere. Now, he has become a father for the second time and is wrapping up recording his new project, the follow up to Everywhere.

Everywhere has been McGraw's strongest and most diverse collection of songs yet. The entertainer who has hit before with dance party smashes like "I Like It I Love It" and ballads such as "Don't Take the Girl" once again moves effortlessly between "up-tempo driving-with-the-top-down" tunes and power ballads.

As with his previous albums (Tim McGraw, Not A Moment Too Soon and All I Want), Everywhere was co-produced by James Stroud and Byron Gallimore. This time, however, McGraw's own name is also listed alongside as a co-producer. "This is the first time I've had a chance to co-produce my own record," he says. "I have co-produced both of Jo Dee Messina's albums with Byron, and I have some other projects that are coming up. Production is definitely something I'm looking forward to in the future." The lead single "Bye Bye" became Jo Dee's first number one single. Not since Chet Atkins has another country artist attained the producer success of McGraw.

While he may produce other artists on his own, don't look for a Tim McGraw album to be produced by the singer -- alone. "I need that other set of ears," he says. "I think it would be counter-productive to produce my album by myself. Byron, James and I work great as a team, and I think that's necessary for my own albums."

One thing McGraw would like to see on future albums is his name listed as a songwriter. "I have such respect for songwriters--they're the backbone and soul of what we do for sure. Part of me wants to be a part of all that. I have been writing and I'd like to write more -- when I have the time. Right now, I'm just thankful we've been able to record such great songs by other writers. I love all the songs on this album."

During Tim McGraw's five years in country music, he has continually reinvented himself -- taking fans on a roller coaster ride of emotions. He made his mark with the Number One smash, "Indian Outlaw," but the dance club favorite was soon eclipsed by the heartwrenching ballad, "Don't Take the Girl," another Number One hit that pushed Not A Moment Too Soon to sales of five million.

Not A Moment Too Soon closed out '94 as the best selling country album (the fifth bestselling album in any genre), and its success cemented McGraw's status as a true superstar. At that year's Academy of Country Music Awards, McGraw took home trophies for Top New Male Vocalist and Album of the Year. Billboard named him Best New Artist for the year, and he also took home honors from CMT (Male Video Artist of the Year) and Blockbuster Entertainment (Favorite CD).

Challenged with the task of topping a great year and a huge album, Tim McGraw proved his staying power with the release of All I Want, his third album on Curb Records. The 1st single, "I Like It, I Love It," would spend five weeks at Number One, tieing a record held by only four other acts. "Can't Be Really Gone" would follow its predecessor to the top of the charts a mere eight weeks after its release. Then, in the summer of '96, McGraw would turn the hat trick with "She Never Lets It Go To Her Heart" -- yet another Number One single from All I Want.

Meanwhile, the 1996 Spontaneous Combustion Tour brought McGraw's music to the people in a big way. With sold-out shows across the nation, the tour would be one of the Top Five grossing tours of the year. It would also change Tim McGraw's life. "We fell in love on that tour," McGraw says of his touring mate Faith Hill, who became his wife midway through the year when the two married in McGraw's hometown in Louisiana.

Faith and Tim welcomed daughters Gracie (1997) and Maggie (1998), enriching and altering McGraw's life forever.

But making history and setting new and higher standards in the country music field is just what McGraw's music creates. Typical of the confidence and attitude that has carried McGraw to the top of his field, he concludes, "You can do anything you want, if you put your mind to it." Tim's latest album is A Place In The Sun. Tim also is planning another tour with Faith Hill later this summer and into the fall.
