Patty Loveless grew up in Pikeville, Kentucky. She has 7 siblings. Their father worked in the coal mines there. In the early days, she and her family enjoyed playing and listening to music. Much of that was bluegrass / mountain style. The Stanley Brothers, Lester Flatt, Earl Scruggs and Bill Monroe were some of her early musical influances. Other influances were Rock and Roll and big band songs that her siblings liked. Another influance was the Grand Old Opry radio show. This inspired her to pursue her musical interest. When she was 14, she was writing and singing for the Wilburn Brothers at the Grand Old Opry. She got to meet such stars as Dolly Parton and Porter Wagoner there.
In 1976, Patty moved to North Carolina working in a Top 40 band. She broadend her style here. She was singing the rock music style of the late 70's.

Her musical success has been rewarded. She has 3 platinum and 1 gold album and many nominations and awards. In 1989, she won the TNN/Music City News Star of Tomorrow Award. She has also won the CMA Vocal Event of he year award with George Jones, twice. She has won CMA album of the year, Female Vocalist of the Year and ACM Female Vocalist of the Year.
To conclude, Patty has become one of the most respected and honered country singers today. Her songs speak from her heart with emotion and soul.
