The Sara Evans Story

This is the story behind country newcomer Sara Evans. I got to see her open for Clay Walker in April, 1999. Sara was born in New Franklin, Missouri. She grew up on a tobacco farm and started singing at age four. In 1991 she moved to Nashville, at ages 20 where she worked as a waitress while she worked on her music career.  She also met her husband, Caig Scheiske, during this period. In 1992, she went to Oregon to form Sara Evans and North Santiam. They toured that area for a few years opened shows Willie Nelson , Tim McGraw Clay Walker.

In 1995 moved back to Nashville. Songwriter Harlan Howard heard her singing on a demo tape and brought her to the attention of RCA Records in 1995. She started singing demos finally got record deal with MCA 1996. Her 1997 album, Three Chords And The Truth, earned her an Academy of Country Music Nomination for "Top New Female Vocalist." The video for the title track was nominated for "Country Video of the Year" by the 1998 Music Video Production Association and for "Best New Clip" at the 1997 Billboard Music Video Awards. Sara Evans was also named one of Country America's "Ten To Watch In 1998/Top 10 New Stars Of 1998."

She has since sung on albums by Vince Gill and Martina McBride, and was the first new country artist chosen by Coca Cola to write and perform a commercial.  Evans has also recorded a song for the film Clay Pigeons starring Joaquin Phoenix, Janeane Garofalo and Vince Vaughan and she is the youngest artist to be featured on the Tammy Wynette tribute album. Her current album is No Place That Far. She is also featured on Girls' Night Out. Sara has been described as a link between the traditional country and today's style. I think she has a lot of potential and was very impressed with her live show and her contribution to Girls' Night Out.
